Adult Residential
for People with
Developmental Disabilities
(Mental Retardation)
Adult residential programs include supported living, independent
living and group homes, based on an individual's greatest level
of independence and need.
Group homes for
8 to 10 residents with developmental disabilities help them learn
to become more independent within the community, providing support
for community living and psychosocial support, and teaching daily
living skills. Homes are staffed 24 hours a day with either overnight
awake or asleep staff.
Other kinds
of supported living include Medicaid Waiver Supported Living with
not more than 3 people living in a home or apartment. Homes are
provided 24-hour staff as defined by each person's service plan.
Awake overnight staff is also present to serve the needs of individuals
who live within the community.
State-Funded
Supported Living, previously Independent Living, involves living
in apartments or homes without overnight asleep or awake staff.
The individuals have 24-hour access to independent living support
workers for medical, social, vocational and financial needs.
Living successfully
"on their own" helps many individuals realize their dream
and is possible because of an adequate support system based on individual
need.
Frontier
Living represents adult residential homes in Tennessee for people
with developmental disabilities or mental retardation.
