Therapeutic Foster Care

  Therapeutic or Treatment Foster Care is specialized foster care with the foster parent receiving training, support, additional pay, and guidance for the care of the child. The VALUES program offers parents training before a child is placed and during the placement along with regular visits in the home by the case worker assigned to assist the foster parents. Therapeutic foster care works with children in state custody who are from birth to 17 years old.

Therapeutic / Treatment Foster Parents
   People who are good Therapeutic / Treatment Foster Parents are caring, supportive, and provided consistent care.

   These foster parents are willing to make a difference in a child's life and aid the child in returning home, being adopted, or remain in foster care. Therapeutic Foster Parents are from all walks of life and many different backgrounds.

Children in Therapeutic Foster Care
   Children enter care through referrals from local Departments of Social Services, courts, mental health clinics, or emergency shelters. The children are in state custody and need a structured, supportive, caring home that will address their needs and provide them with consistency.

  The children are Medicaid approved for health care and receivie clothing vouchers from Department of Social Services during their state in Therapeutic Foster Care. The children are from Wise, Scott, and Lee Counties, and the City of Norton, and need placements in these areas.

The VALUES Program
  VALUES is a licensed as a child-placing agency through Virginia Department of Social Services. VALUES works with children in Wise, Scott, and Lee Counties,a nd the City of Norton and offers trained case managers to each family.

  VALUES offers training, guidance, and links to services needed to maintain foster care placement.

  The program has 24-hour, seven days a week contact with case workers for emergency needs. VALUES has a yearly picnic and Christmas party for foster families and their children. The program offers respite care for families with foster children in the home. Respite Care gives foster families one weekend a month for the foster children to spend with other qualified VALUES families.

Respite Care
  VALUES offers foster families the option of being part-time foster parents on weekends to provide Respite Care for children in the program. These parents take in foster children for two-day periods when other VALUES families need respite care. This is a great opportunity for people to work with a wide range of children for a short time and still help children who need it.
